Born on December 8, 1958, in Huron, South Dakota, Steve often spoke fondly of his idyllic childhood in Lake Preston. A standout athlete in high school, he excelled in various sports, earning recognition that took him to an international basketball tournament in Italy. After graduating from South Dakota State University in 1981, Steve ventured into the world of finance, ultimately building a successful Edward Jones business in Dyersville.

Family and Community Legacy

Steve’s commitment to family was unwavering. He met his wife, Ann Rounds, on a blind date, and together they built a beautiful family. Steve embraced Ann’s children as his own, and their family grew with the addition of their daughter, Ellyse. His retirement from Edward Jones marked a transition, passing the reins to his son and son-in-law, ensuring the family legacy endures.

A pillar of the Dyersville community, Steve held leadership roles in various organizations, including President of Dyersville Economic Development, the Lions’ Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and more. His impact on local businesses and community development will resonate for generations.

Steve’s zest for life extended beyond his professional and community commitments. As DJ Steve, he was the life of the party, whether hosting friends at Salty Acres, enjoying a night of music and dancing in different states, or sharing a drink and a cigar in his garage. His favorite moments were spent with his children and grandchildren, attending Iowa football games, watching the Twins and Vikings, and golfing across Iowa and Arizona.

Travel was another joy for Steve and Ann, exploring destinations worldwide. From a safari in Africa to playing cowboy in Yellowstone National Park, he made friends wherever he went, leaving a lasting impact.

Survived by his wife Ann, children, grandchildren, and siblings, Steve’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. The Dyersville community mourns the loss of a dedicated leader and cherished friend. He is preceded in death by his daughter Liz Wilson, his parents, and other loved ones.

Visitation and Funeral Details

Visitation will be held at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville on Monday, December 18, 2023, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., with additional visitation on Tuesday, December 19, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the family through Kramer Funeral Home.
